SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol employed to connect to a server and perform different tasks using a command line. The protocol is preferred by many expert users, because the information transmitted over it is encrypted, so it may not be intercepted on the way by a 3rd party. SSH access could be used for a number of things depending on the type of website hosting account. With a shared hosting account, for instance, SSH is among the ways to import/export a database or to upload a file in case the web server permits it. In case you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH can be used for just about anything - you may install software or restart certain services like the web server or the database server which run on the machine. SSH is used mainly with UNIX-like Systems, but there are clients which permit you to employ the protocol if your computer is using a different OS as well. The connection is created on TCP port 22 by default and the remote server always listens for incoming connections on that port although a number of service providers change it for security reasons.

SSH Telnet in Shared Website Hosting

SSH access is available with all Linux shared website hosting that we provide. With some of them, it is included by default, while with others it's an optional upgrade you can include with a few clicks in your hosting Control Panel. You could get SSH access through the section related to it where you can also find the info which you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You may choose the password which you shall use and, if necessary, you will be able to change it with a couple of mouse clicks from the same place. All commands that could be used with our shared plans are listed inside a help article along with relevant instances. If the SSH access function is allowed for your account, you shall also be able to upload files through your favorite FTP client via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

You will be able to connect to your semi-dedicated server account using SSH regardless of which plan you choose when you sign up. With some plans, the feature is provided as standard, while with others, it may be added as an extra upgrade for as long as you need it. You can find the required login details in the Hepsia CP, which comes with all accounts - the host/server name, the port number and the login name. You can choose the password that you will use and if you would like, you may change it on a regular basis with a few clicks for even better security. You shall be able to see all the commands which you can use upfront, since we've listed them all together with examples of how they are used in order to execute a specific task. Once SSH access to your semi-dedicated server account is enabled, you'll be able to use an FTP program and establish an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

All our VPS server plans feature SSH access as standard, so you shall not have to include any upgrades or activate anything - as soon as the server is set up and you receive its login information, you shall be able to connect using its main IP address and the login credentials which you've selected through the signup procedure. Since the VPS accounts feature full root-level access, there are no restrictions regarding the commands that you could run. Your server will be isolated from the other ones on the physical machine, so you shall be able to manage pretty much everything through a command line, including server-side software installations and reboots. This way, you may work with your files, databases and any apps you install in a fast and safe way.
